Pre-fabricated vs. tiled shower stalls

For your bathroom, should you buy a ready-made, ready-to-install shower stall or build the frame and tile the bathroom yourself? Like almost everything in home design, this decision largely depends on your budget and taste.

Tiled shower stalls are built from scratch, so you can design them for any space and taste. However they are more expensive than pre-fabricated units. The bulk of the costs will go to the contractor: this will cause leaking if done correctly, so unless you have professional experience in remodeling bathrooms, you will not be able to do it yourself . They will also take much longer to install because of the curing process, so if time is of the essence, you may have to settle for a pre-fabricated shower.
